		<description>Hello, Melissa!  You are correct:  WP recognizes parent themes by the directory name, which very often is different than the theme name.  Maybe I should emphasize that a bit more (it is mentioned now in Section 4.1, Note 3).

		<description>ok while i wait moderation, i figured it out. 
there isnt a theme: name you have to hand put it in exactly as it is in your root directory. 
in my case the directory that the parent lives in is spelled differently than the name of the theme. 
err!  
all in all a wonderful tutorial. 
ive spent 2 hrs and i have a theme wp recognizes! 
although it shows it as a blank page ;-)
